Definitive listing of the biggest, most cinematic, epic songs ever (abridged)

These are the songs that other songs can only dream of being. The huge, the intense, the pumped up anthem that you’ll set the movie montage of your life to at some point. This is my list. Yes, many of these have already been used in movies. Suggest your own in the comments.

    1. Baba O’Riley – The Who
    2. Carry On My Wayward Son – Kansas
    3. Under Pressure – Bowie/Queen
    4. Wake Up – Arcade Fire
    5. November Rain – GnR
    6. Don’t Stop Believing – Journey
    7. Want to Break Free – Queen
    8. Tiny Dancer – Elton John
    9. Another Brick in the Wall – Pink Floyd
    10. Smells Like Teen Spirit – Nirvana
    11. Sloop John B – Beach Boys
    12. Livin on a Prayer – Bon Jovi (I married a Jersey girl)
    13. Born to Run – Springsteen (see above)
    14. Let My Love Open the door – Pete Townshend
    15. The Crane Wife 1 and 2, The Crane Wife 3 – the Decemberists
    16. So Says I – The Shins
    17. Float On – Modest Mouse
    18. Head Over Heels – Tears for Fears
    19. Instant Karma – John Lennon
    20. City of Blinding Lights – U2
    21. Champagne Supernova – Oasis
    22. All You Need is Love – the Beatles
    23. Blinded by the Light – Mannfred Mann’s Earth Band

There are two songs written by Bruce Springsteen on this list. Born to Run is obviously one of them. What’s the other?

This can’t possibly be all of them, so add your own songs…

      1. under my thumb -rolling stones

      2. >Blinded by the Light – Mannfred Mann’s Earth Band

Which “drives me up the wall” because it was played to death by the commercial radio stations when it came out.

      3. This list begins and ends with “Freebird”.

        The South will rise again.

      4. It only took 3 comments to bring out Freebird. I had the over/under at 7.

      5. Could you please make me a mix of The Decemberists, Arcade Fire & The Shins so I can decide if I agree with you.

I only included Crane Wife 3 for the Decemberists because Muxtape doesn’t take files bigger than 10mb, and Crane Wife 1 & 2 clocks in at 17mb. When listened to together, it makes for a great story.

      7. grazie. Listening now. Commenting later =)
